8-3-10. The Presentation Night went really well with
100 members and partners turning up. A big thank you to
all for making it a great night.
22-10-10. A few reports now starting to show a few
small Plaice from the Chesil, get them rods out and go and find
them.
Last night the Lively Lady
Social evening took place at Beer Social Club between
Honiton Sea Angling Club and Beer and District SAA.
Through 2009 two fishing events
had already been staged by the two local clubs. In March
and June the two boat matches had taken place out from Beer
and after the first heat, Beer had a small lead to take to
the second leg. Honiton dominated the second heat and run
out winners by some 250 %. The best fish from these two
heats went to Andy Smitherman from Beer and District with a
Pout of just over 3lb.
In August the two teams again
meet for the shore fixture on Chesil Beach. Some good fish
from both sides were caught on the night. Honiton again
just nudged Beer to second spot by just over 200%.
Finally last night the third
fixture of the year took place with no fishing actually
taking place. The Lively Lady Night is always a good laugh
with both teams picking members for Darts, a pub quiz and
finally a game of skittles. This time is was tight between
the two teams all night. Honiton again triumphed at the end
of night by winning the skittles by a single point. During
the night as usual there was plenty of banter from both
teams.
8-2-10. The Feb rover took place at the weekend with
some 28 members signing on to fish the event. On top of
this 28 there were also a few who are likely to sign on next
month. Members fished wide a field for the fish that were
caught. Best fish (£40)went to Lee Fearnley with a nice
Cod of nearly 10lb. Second and third place in the pool
went to Doggies. The roll over Pout pool for £55 went to
Stefan Herbert with a fish of 0-11-8!!!
26-1-10. Last Saturday saw the first junior event of
the year with 6 juniors taking part. The fishing was not
good at Lyme with only 2 juniors catching fish. Both
Callam and Jonathan scored 33 points.
Terry Hartnell fished at the Chesil on Saturday night.
By all accounts it was a bit slow going but Terry did manage one
good specimen Whiting, which weighed in at 1-10-8.
11-1-10. The first comp of the year has taken place and
boy was it cold!!!!! with a strong N/E wind blowing the event
was moved from Slapton to Abbottsbury. Around 16 signed to
fish and only around half of those fished until the end of the
night. Fish caught included small Whiting, Rockling and
one Codling for the Dr of around 6lb. First prize in the
pool went to Stefan Herbert with a Whiting.
4-1-10. Welcome to the new year, lets hope it will be a
good 2010 for everyone.
A few have been out and about over Xmas and new year.
Half a dozen or so made the trip to Slapton to fish in the
Wyvern Open Shore. Not a nice day weather wise but a few
fish around. Ben Bradstock came in at runner-up from the
100 or so entries (see gallery), Ben weighed in a dog and Whiting combination
for the 2nd spot (WELL DONE) The other bit of good news was that
the Honiton Team (Honiton Hookers) won the team event, so well
done to Ben, Terry, Barry and Stefan. That was a good win.(see
picture on home page)
Other fish reported over the holidays is Boxing day Rex
Hardman had a specimen Whiting from down Slapton way (see
gallery) and Dennis Retter had a Whiting of 1-12-0 at 11pm on
the 31-12-09 from the Chesil. This fish will be in line
for the last specimen fish caught in 2009 i'm sure.
2009
14-12-09. The December shore comp has just been fished
at Bexington and 23 members fished the event in near perfect
conditions for a change. In all 7 specimen Whiting were
caught with the best at 2-11-8 for Terry Hartnell (see gallery)
Peter Riggs also had a good specimen of near 2lb, this was his
first specimen so that was nice to see. Colin Berry
managed 2 specimen fish with his best at around 1-12-0.
Other members catching good fish were:- T Churchchill, B Codling
and ? (sorry forgot the name) Other fish caught included Dogs, Codling, Sole, Rockling and Pout. Weighing in the best two fish for the
meat prizes Terry came out on top with some 250% with two fish
for the top Turkey prize. Second went to Colin Berry who
recorded two specimen Whiting for his Turkey and Third for
another Turkey was Pete Riggs.
Overall points on the night again went to Terry Hartnell (he
has won the last 6 matches) and this was enough to give him the
senior shore championship for 2009.
Terry also fished at Minehead on Sunday in the Blackdown SAC
xmas open and he came away with 6th spot. This won him
another xmas hamper. WELL DONE TERRY YOU HAVE DONE WELL
THIS YEAR>
7-12-09. The last junior comp of the year took place at
Lyme at the weekend and the weather was awful. However
most of the 8 juniors that fished caught fish. There were
Pout, Rockling, Silver Eel, Dogfish and a cracking Bass for
Callam of 5-7-8. (see gallery)
3-12-09. Reports again that a few Cod have been caught.
Steve Butler managed a couple of eaters with a couple of Cod
around 5lb. Ken Sparks and Colin Berry fished around the
South Hams again and they caught Codling, Whiting and a nice
Huss near 8lb.
23-11-09. A few have been out and about. Stuart
Crawford had a nice Cod from Chesil at the weekend of just over
16lb (see gallery) and Ken and Colin fished at Slapton on Friday
night and it seemed had some nice fish, with Whiting 1-3-0 and
Dogs and Pout.
31-10-09. Saturday night saw the Oct competition take
place and it was fished by a good number of members again.
You could fish from Cogden to Abbottsbury and everyone
seemed spread over the three venues. Conditions were good
with the wind increasing as the night went on from the S/W.
Fish caught on the night included Dogfish, Whiting, Pollack,
Pout, Plaice and Sole. Best fish on the scales was Stefan
Herbert with a specimen Sole of 2-2-0.
Junior Liam Crawford has recently broken the junior shore Cod
record with a fish of 3-1-0. He was out fishing with Dad
(Stuart) on Chesil when the fish took his wormbait. (picture to
follow for the gallery)
26-10-09. The Westward Festival has just been fished at
the weekend with Honiton SAC hosting the competition.
Highlight of the day for me was seeing Dr Kim turn up at Seaton
to have a chat with some of our team. Dr Kim had just had
major surgery and was now back home doing well. NICE TO
SEE YOU KIM. The competition went well with plenty of fish
at Branscombe and a bit slower at Seaton. Fish caught were
:- Dogs, Mackerel, Gars, Scad, Wrasse, Sole, Plaice, Huss,
Rockling, Whiting, and Pollack. In first place was Watchet
with 40 points followed by Honiton SAC on 33 points with the
mighty Exmouth not far behind in third spot.
Rex and Brigid has been fishing hard over the last week and
some good fish have been caught. Fishing close to home
they had a good session on the Bass with both catching some nice
fish. Rex had the best at a shade over the 10lb mark (see
gallery)
19-10-09. The Torbay Shield event has just taken place
at Paignton. Conditions on the day were good but the
fishing was nothing special. Most anglers from the ten
teams weighed-in with Mackerel, Gars, Wrasse and Dogs being
caught from the zones around Torbay. The boat section
fished a number of wrecks well up into Lyme Bay and all that was
caught was Pout, Scad and one Bass of around 7lb for Chris
Atkins from Sidmouth SAC. Teignmouth SAS run out the
winning team just in front of the host club Paignton.
Honiton came in 7th spot. Even the mighty ESAA came higher
up the tree than us.
Stefan Herbert weighed-in a good shore fish on Saturday
morning he fished off Chesil and had a super Black Bream of
3-2-0 (see gallery) other fish caught on the trip with Stuart
Crawford included more Bream, Triggers, Pout and Doggies.
Saturday Night also saw the Jurasic Open Shore event at Lyme
Regis. Some 40 anglers fished the competition from 5pm -
10pm all along the front of Lyme Regis. Most anglers
weighed-in fish with plenty of Wrasse, Pout, Gars, Dogs, Bass,
Rockling and Mullet being caught. Winner was a local lad
Toby who had a nice Mullet and Doggie combination, this won him
£250 and a ABU reel. In second spot was Terry Hartnell who
recorded a Doggie and Pout combination to win him £150 and a rod
and reel.
On the same Saturday night was the latest junior shore event
again at Lyme. Another good turn out with 2 more juniors
joining up with the club. ALL THE JUNIORS CAUGHT FISH
which was good for them. Pout, Gars, Whiting, Gurnard and
Pollack.
12-10-09. A few Mackerel and Gars coming from Seaton

having a gorge. Also reports of a Cod being caught of the
beach at Seaton of 3.5lb in the week.

Gars and a couple of Mackerel.
A few out and about at the weekend just gone. A few Cod
showing along the Chesil, Ken Sparks had one just under 8lb also
the first sizable Whiting now also coming from the Chesil.
A few other bits and pieces have been recorded over the last
few weeks, Barry Codling found some good fishing over the water
which included some nice Triggers and Bream. Ken Sparkes
fished last weekend and had a near specimen Golden Grey Mullet,
again from Chesil.
28-9-09. Reports of just a few flat fish from Chesil.
(if you find a patch to fish without nets!!!) A small Sole
for Ken Sparks and a couple of nice Plaice for Barry Codling.
The latest junior comp was fished at Seaton on Saturday night
with around 5 juniors fishing. I was not there myself but
I think there were some Mackerel, Scad and Gars caught.
22-9-09. The Lyme Bay shore event has just taken place
with 4 clubs taking part. Fishing in the day light the
fishing was steady but in the dark it was slow!. Fish
caught included Dogfish, Scad, Gars and Mackerel. Each
club was allowed to weigh-in their best 10 fish and Honiton SAC
ran out the winning team with 545 %. Close behind was West
Bay with 515 % (see gallery)
17-9-09. News that the All Nighter has taken place and
again a good numbers fished the event last weekend. In all
some 17 species of fish were caught, the best fish went to Simon
Vincent with a very good Plaice Of 4-2-0. It would appear
Ben and Terry again done well catching some 10 or 11 species
each. Two other specimens caught on the night which were A
Trigger for Fish Shop Phil and another specimen Plaice for Micky
Kane.
8-9-09. News from Leon Rice that his daughter Chloe
Rice had a good result at the Seaton Carnival shore comp last
week. Chloe caught a Mackerel and Gurnard combination to
take 2nd spot and win a tackle voucher for Seaton Tackle shop.
Congratulation again to Chloe who joined the club a few months
back.
7-9-09. Five members have just returned from Ireland
after a weeks hard fishing. 14 specimen fish were recorded
like Dogfish, Pollack and Dab. The weather was not good
all week with heavy rain at times, gale force winds and the sea
was the colour of Tea!!!. Best fish of the week went to
John Pidgeon who had a nice shore Pollack of 6.5lb. In all
20 different species of fish were captured during the week.
(photo on gallery soon)
Other tales of fish being caught are :- Dr Kim had a
good day in Cornwall on the Bass with a good numbers hooked and
returned and Nice one Dave Bowyer had a shore Pout just short of
specimen weighing 1-7-8.
24-8-09 The Chesil rover has just taken place at the weekend
with a very good turn out for this event. The fishing was
patchy at times but Mr Hartnell done well again recording 7
species of fish and he weighed in the required two of each for
another great victory. A good number of species were
caught in the event. Rex had a nice Plaice of 2.5lb and
Bridget also had a nice Smoothound of around 6lb (weighed/photo
and returned alive) Best specimen on the night was Stuart
Crawford with a Dogfish of over 2lb, winning him over £30.
The Garfish pool also went on this comp with Terry Hartnell
landing two with the best one around 8oz, it was worth nearly
£70!!! This event was also the inter-club against Beer for
the Lively Lady shore. The results will be published soon
for each clubs 10 best fish.
18-8-09. Trigger Fish do seem to be showing now in
Dorset. Mike Spiller tried his luck during his holiday and
found them to 2lb to his rag/crab bait.
17-8-09. Junior member Callam Hardwick recently went on
holiday to Cornwall and tried his luck at going for Mullet.
He did manage to find of 2.5 lb on his lug worm bait. WELL
DONE CALLAM.
28-7-09. A bit of a story from Micky Kane.
Together With Lee, Aaron and Paul they traveled over the fleet
to fish at their secret mark and it sounds like they had a good
days fishing with Gurnard, Mackerel, Bream, Doggies, Bass and
Smoothounds. The best fish was still to come for the four
of them, whilst rowing back across the Fleet in the dark a 6lb
Mullet jumped into the boat and hit poor old Lee right in the
chops! Apparently you could hear the laughing as far away as
Weymouth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
27-7-09. The third Friday evening comp took place last
Friday at Sidmouth and a good number ofmembers took part.
The water was murky but there was Gars, Mackerel, Scad and
Doggies caught. Best specimen went to Ben Bradstock who
had a Garfish of 1lb.
14-7-09. The all nighter has just taken place and the

Best Bass (S Crawford), Best Bream (P Rouse), Best Doggie (L
Fearnley) and best Smoothound (P Rouse). Many thanks to
Neil for his support. (see gallery)
29-6-09. A few members on your behalf (mostly due to Dr
Kim and Si of Exmouth/Honiton club) have talked to the owners of
Branscombe car park and organised a pass system for cheap
parking. A car permit is available from Mike Spiller (car
reg number is needed) this will then allow you to park that car
at Branscombe from 6pm - 6am for £2 at anytime of the year.
A big thank you must go to all who helped get this permit system
going. Contact Mike Spiller for details.
The Ferry Bridge event has taken place and by all accounts it
was a bit slow I here top rods on the day was Ben Bradstock and
Terry Hartnell who caught plenty of most things on the day.
Ben also had a specimen Red Gurnard of just over the 1lb rate.
25-6-09. A few nice Rays being reported by Barry
Codling and Stefan Herbert. Between them they had a
selection of Small Eyed Ray to over specimen and also a few

anglers from both clubs turned out to fish the competition at
Budleigh. Each team could weigh-in their best 10 fish
(mostly Doggies) At the presentation after the comp Exouth
SAA came out on top with around 850 % to Honiton's 750%.
Best fish of the night for Honiton went to Ken Sparks with a
Small Eyed Ray of over 7lb. (WELL DONE EXMOUTH)
2-6-09. A few good fish have been recorded lately.
Dave Bowyer had a good Small Eyed from the North Coast of over
8lb. I understand on the same day there were other nice
ray caught. Colin Berry had a good session recently when
he hooked into and landed a super Smoothound of well over 10lb
and reports too of other good fish lost on the night. (see
gallery)
Mike Spiller been to Ireland recently and had some good
catches of Pollack and Mackerel. Nothing too big but did manage
a specimen Dogfish of 2-9-8.
Reports of a few small Black Bream being caught. Ken
Sparks and Colin Berry fished on the Chesil and had them to
1.5lb
The junior shore has just taken place and only 2 juniors
turned up ? (do we not like Budleigh?) Liam and Harry both
had catches of Mackerel on the night, with 4 each.
18-5-09. The first evening comp has taken place at
Budleigh at the weekend. Around a dozen turned out to fish
it in poor conditions, fish caught included Mackerel, Bass and

taken this weekend. Stuart Crawford had a huge Bass of
14-13-0 and Stefan Herbert had another of 10-3-0 whilst out
fishing on Sunday. Both fish took a live Pout bait. (see
gallery) Both of these fish are PB's for Stef
and Stuart by a fair margin. Cracking fish lads, well
done.
The junior shore event took place at the weekend, should have
been at Seaton but it was moved to Lyme due to the weather.
8 juniors took part along with around 7 adults. The
fishing was poor with just 3 fish being caught, measured and
returned.
20-4-09. The club April comp has just taken place and
again very good numbers fishing it. The event was opened
up due to the parking restrictions at Seatown so it was made

small Huss. Mike Spiller and Taffy tried the Dorset coastline
for the Rays. Only one caught for the Welsh Wizzard, a
Small Eyed of just over 6lb. Other fish caught included
Pouting and Dogs.
25-3-09. The March shore event took place last weekend
at Burton Bradstock. A good entry of 23 members turned to
fish the event from 4pm - Mid. Conditions were good but I
here the fishing was generally poor. Not 100% sure of the
results but I think Colin Berry won the comp with a Doggy of
around 2-3-0 and Lee was 2nd with another Doggy. I even heard that not everyone weigh-in !!!!.
17-3-09. The junior shore took place at Lyme over the
weekend with some 7 juniors and 9 helpers turning up to assist.
All the juniors caught fish on the night with mainly Pout,
Rockling and Doggies being caught. The best Doggie caught
was for Callam and Jonathon (see gallery)who both had fish of
the same size. Top rod on the night was Callam Hardwick.
16-3-09. Reports of a few small Small Eyed Ray coming
from the East of our region, no size yet but looking good for
the next few months.
12-3-09. The last of the training nights has now taken place
at the Honiton Motel. Attendance at all three nights was
not too bad ranging from around a dozen and up to twenty members
turning up. Many things were covered like reels and leader
knots, shore and boat rig making, weight selection and last
night bait cutting was shown to all. Thanks to all that
turned up and helped on these nights.
23-2-09. Lively Lady evening has just taken place at the
Social Club at Beer. A good turn out from both clubs saw a
great night of Darts, Skittles and a quiz. It all got a
bit tight on the results near the end with Honiton winning the

LSD of 1-15-09 and Trevor Churchill took the third spot with
another Doggy.

fishing expert team.
www.fishingexpert.co.uk/home.htm
29-1-09. The first of three training evenings took
place last night at the motel. Around 20 members took part
with leader knots and reel tuning on the first table and rig
making and weight selection on the next table up. Craig
(squadron leader) Nation was also there on the end providing
some simple DVD's on fishing.
28-1-09. The first junior event of the year has taken
place at Lyme Regis in far from perfect conditions. However, 6
juniors fished the 3 hour event along with 5 adults helping.
Fish were a bit scarce with 3 of the juniors catching a mixture
of Pouting and Rockling. In first spot was Liam Crawford
who caught a good number of Pout and Rockling, all of which were
measured and returned. Best fish of the night was a
Pouting of 8oz for Steve Trenchard.
6-1-09. The first comp of the year has been held in icy
cold conditions. The event was moved from Slapton due to
expected strong East winds and lack of beach. The event
was moved to be a Chesil rover. A good number turned out
on the day to fish but it sounds like no one told the fish to be
there ! Sounds like there were very few Doggies and
Whiting caught along with a few Pout and Codling plus a dab.
The dab took first place in the pool for Ben Bradstock.
The best win of the day went to Lee who had the super duper 2
comp roll over Pouting pool of around £45 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
First comp of the year will be at Slapton on 3rd Jan 2009
(see the competition page for more details.
22-12-08. The December junior event has just taken

Callum, Toby and Liam on the night.
Two nice Cod reported at the end of last week for Ken and

fish was around 7lb. The Chesil does seem to be fishing
well at the moment.
15-12-08. The December competition has just taken place
at Slapton and again a good turn out by members was seen.
Conditions for Slapton was good but the fish did seem a bit shy
on the day. Best specimen was taken by Colin (the rocket)
Berry with a Doggy of just over 2lbs. Fish caught included
:- Whiting, Conger, Mackerel and Doggies. Stefan Herbert

up to fish this 12 hour marathon. Everyone caught fish on
this very cold day, fish caught included:- Pout, Dog fish,
Mackerel, Garfish, Dabs, Whiting and Codling. Best
specimen went to Ken Sparks who had a specimen Whiting of
1-13-0, (see gallery) 2nd spot went to John Pidgeon with a
Dogfish. The pool for the best Mackerel went to Mike

year will be at Slapton on the 14th December.
30-11-08. Reports from the normal gang that Dave 'Nice
One' Bowyer had a nice Whiting last weekend from the Chesil.
The first specimen Whiting this year weighing 1-8-8.
25-11-08. Reports of plenty of Whiting all along the
Chesil and a few from Seaton. With the cold spell it
should start to move the Congers on a bit too, Chesil worth a
try.
20-10-08. Westward winners again, that is the news from
Sundays match. The whole team fished well with 3 zone wins
on the shore. Conditions were not too good for the boat
and shore match but we came out on top with a massive 55 points.
Sidmouth came in at 2nd spot some 20 points behind.
WELL DONE TEAM
13-10-08. Saturday night saw the junior comp at Lyme
Regis. With 3 seniors present along with only 3 juniors
this time. All the juniors caught fish, fish caught
included Garfish, Pout, Dogfish and Pollack. Top rod on
the night was Callum with Tom and Harry not that far behind.
Sunday saw the club put a team in the Torbay Shield which was
hosted by the Sidmouth club. There were 4 beach zones at
Branscombe along with 1 zone at Sidmouth and 1 boat zone out
from Beer on the boat section. Our team done really well
and finished in 2 nd spot with Sidmouth SAC winning this long
running competition. Congratulations must go to the whole
team from the club.
8-10-08. The October all-night comp has just been held
in only what could be described as awful conditions, very heavy
rain and gales most of the night!!!. However most of the
members that fished through the night caught fish. Fish
coming to the scales were:- Bass, Whiting, Pout, Pollack,
Dogfish, Garfish, Mackerel and Red Mullet. Best fish of
the comp went to Stuart Crawford with a Doggy of 2-6-8.
Super pool winner was the Dr (it was), I believe Kim had a
Mackerel and Doggy combination for the £55. Kim also had
the golden pool for the best Garfish (12oz). Most anglers
fished around Torbay as most of Dorset was blown out.
30-9-08. The junior September shore comp has just been
held at Seaton with 7 juniors and 5 seniors attending. A
mix of fish were caught like Scad, Mackerel and Garfish.
The points have not yet been done but I guess Harry Bright done
well catching all three species mentioned.
23-9-08. The last shore comp has just taken place from
all along Chessil. Members fished from the Cogden end
right up to the cove at Portland and most anglers made good
catches with some 9 different species caught. A few plaice
and Sole came in to the weigh-in. Best specimen went to Dr
Kim, it did. He had a Pout of 1-7-8. Dave Bowyer
also had a nice Mackerel of 1-8-0.
15-9-08. A seems a few flats are now coming at the West
of of the Chessil. 'Top Gun' Colin Berry saw a few small
Soles last weekend for his efforts.
11-9-08. It appears the weather took its toll on the
Lyme Bay shore competition last weekend. Bad weather made
it un fishable.
10-9-08. Three club members have just returned from a weeks
fishing in Southern Ireland. Mike Spiller, Terry Hartnell
and John Pidgeon braved the wet and windy weather for most of
the week down in Kerry. Plenty of fish were caught and
released (or eaten) Flat fish seemed plentiful along with
the Doggies. Best fish of the week fell to new member John
Pidgeon with a nice Pollack 0f 6-15-0, John also had another
Pollack of 5-3-0. (see gallery and home page)

The interclub event has just been held at Branscombe against
Exmouth SAA (AKA the Ladies) Knowing full well Exmouth wanted to
win the shield we helped them along nicely on the night by only
weighing and recording our smallest fish, we decided to put back
any fish that might give them a problem with. Guess what
it worked they went away with a nice lead of 500%. The
next stage will be easy too for them at Ferry Bridge at the end
of June. Not telling them again but most of our team will
be away in Ireland !!! WELL DONE EXMOUTH, YOU HAVE WON THE
INTER-CLUB AT LAST.
